Missing My Best Friend

I miss this guy more now than the day I had to say goodbye. Not only was he my best friend, he was my support system, confidant, diary and secret keeper.  He never judged and was loyal.  I never knew what it meant to receive that kind of commitment until he found me – running across the pet store practically leaping into my arms.

We were out and about on a weekend and for some unknown reason, I wanted to visit the pet store.  The girls and I were enjoying looking at the animals when all of a sudden out of nowhere this red fur ball came running across the store and stopped directly in front of me and jumped up at me as if we had been separated for a lifetime.  I laughed at him telling him hello and thought that was the end. Needless to say, he rode home in my lap and stayed with me for a wonderful 12 years.

The emptiness and hurt will never disappear or heal in my heart. I have another dog-it took 6 years to find her but she, and I love Scarlett very much, will never be my Jackson.

I love you Jackson and miss you so very much.

  1. I know what you’re feeling. It is sooo hard to lose your best friend. My little guy now is 11 years old. I don’t know how I could go on without him…seriously. You gave your Jackson a life filled with love, as he gave you. I wish doggies lived longer…If there is a doggie heaven, I’m sure Jackson is running around, without pain, with all his new friends.

  2. It’s so hard to lose a member of the family. If you are anything like me, you’ll never forget. We had a Dane decades ago who was one of those extra special dogs. I still tear up when I think of her. I hope you get to the point where your memories outweigh your sorrow. The healing process is hard.
